The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor is set to significantly improve passenger experience with the introduction of dedicated station plazas and an integrated multi-modal transport system. These developments aim to ensure seamless connectivity, reduce congestion, and strengthen last-mile access for commuters.

As India’s first bullet train project progresses, authorities are focusing not only on speed but also on creating a well-connected and commuter-friendly transport ecosystem.

Focus on Seamless Last-Mile Connectivity

A key component of the project is the development of a multi-modal integration system, which will link bullet train stations with buses, taxis, and other local transport networks.

Dedicated station plazas will serve as organized transit hubs, allowing passengers to easily transition between different modes of transport without inconvenience.

This approach is expected to address common commuter challenges such as:

  • Difficulty in finding local transport
  • Long walking distances with luggage
  • Unorganized pick-up and drop-off areas

By centralizing access to multiple transport options, the project aims to deliver a smoother and more efficient travel experience.

Modern Station Plazas with Urban Design Features

The planned station plazas will function as well-structured public spaces equipped with modern infrastructure, including:

  • Designated parking areas
  • Pick-up and drop-off zones
  • Separate pedestrian pathways
  • Enhanced street lighting
  • CCTV surveillance systems
  • Fire safety infrastructure

These improvements are expected to streamline passenger movement and significantly reduce congestion in surrounding areas.

Implementation Across the Corridor

The 508 km Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, being executed by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), is already seeing progress in plaza development.

Contracts have been awarded for stations in Gujarat, including:

  • Surat
  • Bilimora
  • Vapi
  • Bharuch
  • Anand
  • Vadodara

In Maharashtra, similar facilities will be introduced at:

  • Thane
  • Boisar
  • Virar

Towards Faster and Smarter Travel

Scheduled for launch by August 15, 2027, the bullet train will drastically reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Beyond speed, the project’s emphasis on connectivity and commuter-centric design is expected to redefine long-distance travel in India.

With integrated infrastructure and improved last-mile access, the corridor is poised to offer a faster, smoother, and more efficient travel experience for both daily commuters and long-distance passengers.
