Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (August 22) inaugurated three new Metro projects in Kolkata along with a subway at Howrah, marking a major boost in the city’s public transport network. With this expansion, the Metro Railway will operate 366 train services daily across the three corridors, enhancing connectivity and easing travel for lakhs of commuters.Kolkata Metro 2025

The inauguration, which comes ahead of Durga Puja, is seen as a festive gift for the people of Kolkata, making it easier to travel between North and South Kolkata for pandal-hopping, as well as visiting key destinations such as Kalighat and Dakshineswar temples.
New Metro Corridors and Services
- Green Line (Howrah Maidan – Salt Lake Sector V)
- 186 services daily (93 in each direction) from Monday to Saturday at 8-minute intervals.
- On Sundays, 104 services will run with 15-minute frequency.
- First Service: 6:30 AM (Howrah Maidan) / 6:32 AM (Salt Lake Sector V)
- Last Service: 9:45 PM (Howrah Maidan) / 9:47 PM (Salt Lake Sector V)
- Orange Line (Kavi Subhash – Beleghata)
- 60 services daily (30 in each direction) from Monday to Friday at 25-minute intervals.
- No services on Saturdays and Sundays.
- First Service: 8:00 AM (both directions)
- Last Service: 8:05 PM (both directions)
- Yellow Line (Noapara – Jai Hind Bimanbandar)
- 120 services daily (60 in each direction) from Monday to Friday at 10–15 minute intervals.
- No services on Saturdays and Sundays.
- First Service: 7:58 AM (both directions)
- Last Service: 8:00 PM (both directions)
Boost for Kolkata’s Mobility
The addition of these three stretches is expected to significantly reduce congestion on city roads and provide faster, smoother, and more eco-friendly travel. Metro authorities highlighted that the operational schedule has been designed to balance peak-hour rush with convenience for daily commuters.
