Improved connectivity to Tirupati, Sri City, Horsley Hills, and Krishnapatnam Port expected to boost economy and reduce logistics cost
In a major infrastructure push for Andhra Pradesh, 29 National Highway projects spanning 272 kilometres have been launched with a total investment exceeding ₹5,233 crore. These projects aim to strengthen regional connectivity, reduce travel time, and enhance access to key economic, religious, and tourist hubs across the state.
Key Project Highlights:
- Madanapalle to Pileru Stretch (NH-71)
Upgraded to a modern 4-lane corridor over 56 km at a cost of ₹1,994 crore. The stretch includes:- 9 flyovers
- 19 major bridges
- 5 vehicular underpasses
- 10 local underpasses
- 1 rail overbridge

- Kurnool to Mandlem Section (NH-340C)
Transformed into a 4-lane road with paved shoulders over 31 km, at an investment of ₹858 crore. It features:- 1 flyover
- 4 viaducts
- 3 local underpasses
- 1 minor underpass

Strategic Benefits:
These highway upgrades are expected to:
- Eliminate accident-prone black spots and railway crossings
- Lower transportation and logistics costs (reduced from 16% to 10%, with a target of 9% by December 2025)
- Improve last-mile connectivity, particularly in rural and tribal areas
- Decongest urban centres such as Tirupati, Nellore, and Rayachoty

The projects will improve connectivity to:
- Religious Sites: Tirupati, Srisailam, Kadiri
- Tourist Spots: Horsley Hills, Vodarevu Beach
- Economic Hubs: Sri City, Krishnapatnam Port, Tirupati Airport
The length of National Highways managed by NHAI in Andhra Pradesh has seen a dramatic increase—rising by 120% from 4,000 km in 2014 to 8,700 km in 2025—highlighting a consistent focus on infrastructure-led development.
