The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is set to host “How Do Cities Really Work? – City Walks for Youth 2026”, an immersive urban learning experience designed to help young participants understand the forces shaping Indian cities. The initiative invites final-year undergraduate students and working professionals to step out of classrooms and offices to engage directly with the urban environment.

This experiential programme encourages participants to walk, question, observe, and analyse the complex systems that define city life—from infrastructure and mobility to housing, public spaces, governance, and socio-economic dynamics. Through guided explorations, the walks aim to build critical urban literacy and deepen understanding of how policy, planning, ecology, and communities intersect in shaping everyday urban experiences.
Event Schedule
- Kolkata – 21 February 2026
- Jaipur – 1 March 2026
- New Delhi – 7 March 2026
Each city walk will focus on local contexts while addressing broader questions of urban planning, sustainability, equity, and resilience. Participants will gain first-hand exposure to how cities function as interconnected systems rather than isolated projects.
Who Can Participate?
The programme is open to:
- Final-year undergraduate students
- Young and mid-career working professionals
The City Walks initiative reflects IIHS’s continued commitment to fostering informed, engaged, and future-ready urban citizens.
For registration details and programme updates, participants are encouraged to visit the official IIHS website and social media channels.
