MoEFCC to Organise ‘Him-CONNECT’ at WSDS 2026 in New Delhi to Accelerate Himalayan Innovations

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) will organise ‘Him-CONNECT’ on the sidelines of The Energy and Resources Institute’s (TERI) World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2026 in New Delhi from 25–27 February 2026. The platform aims to connect researchers working in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) with start-ups, investors and policymakers to facilitate scaling and on-ground implementation of research-driven innovations.

‘Him-CONNECT’ will be open to visitors on 26 and 27 February 2026.

Showcasing 24+ Technologies for the Fragile Himalayan Ecosystem

More than 24 technologies, prototypes, patents and pilot projects developed under the Ministry’s National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) will be showcased during the event. The initiative is expected to witness participation from over 100 start-ups, incubators, investors and policymakers, creating a collaborative ecosystem where innovation meets enterprise.

While NMHS has supported over 250 action-oriented initiatives over the past decade, several technologies now require structured pathways for commercialisation, deployment and wider adoption. Him-CONNECT is designed to bridge this gap by linking innovators with funding channels, industry partners and development organisations.

Participation from Premier Institutions

The 24 innovators represent leading academic and research institutions including IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Jammu, IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi, CSIR-CRRI, CSIR-IHBT, Central Agricultural University Imphal, NIT Silchar, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, SKUAST-K, University of Kashmir, TERI-Guwahati, Kumaon University and the G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE), among others.

Focus Areas: Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development

The exhibition will highlight field-validated and market-ready solutions in key sectors such as water security, climate adaptation, waste-to-wealth models, sustainable building technologies, renewable energy and nature-based livelihoods.

Key innovations include:

  • Eco-friendly road construction techniques
  • Treated wastewater use for hydroponic farming
  • Conversion of sericulture waste into burn ointments
  • Low-cost mineralised water purifiers
  • Pine needle-based wastewater treatment systems
  • Decentralised wastewater reuse solutions for Himalayan regions
  • Yak milk cottage cheese processing technologies

Strengthening Climate Leadership and South-South Cooperation

Him-CONNECT reflects India’s commitment to solution-oriented climate leadership and South-South cooperation, offering partnership and co-financing pathways for replication in other mountain and fragile ecosystems globally. By aligning science with finance and policy frameworks, the initiative aims to accelerate climate resilience, green growth and sustainable development from the Himalayas to the global stage.

The Indian Himalayan Region remains a vital life-support system for millions in upland and downstream areas, serving as a climate regulator for much of Asia and holding immense ecological and cultural significance. Through the National Mission on Himalayan Studies, the government continues to support targeted interventions focused on conservation, natural resource management, biodiversity protection, water security and sustainable livelihoods.
