Punjab: The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) conducted a field visit to Punjab’s Moga district on October 16, 2026, to review the implementation of measures aimed at preventing stubble burning during the ongoing paddy harvesting season.

A high-level delegation led by Dr. T.S. Panwar, Member (Technical), CAQM, held discussions with district officials and visited selected hotspot villages in Moga to assess the ground-level situation, preparedness of the district administration and coordination among the departments concerned.
During the visit, the delegation reviewed arrangements for the effective management of paddy residue through both in-situ and ex-situ methods. The assessment covered the availability and deployment of Crop Residue Management (CRM) machinery, field-level surveillance and coordination among the relevant stakeholders.
The team also examined the implementation of preventive measures at identified hotspot locations. It emphasised the importance of continuous monitoring, effective coordination at the field level and timely action to prevent stubble-burning incidents during the harvesting season.
The visit forms part of CAQM’s ongoing monitoring and review of paddy harvesting season management measures in hotspot districts of Punjab. The exercise aims to assess the effectiveness of ground-level enforcement and strengthen efforts to curb agricultural residue burning, which contributes to air pollution across the region.
