Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) conducted a special inspection drive along Delhi’s Ring Road on October 3, 2026, to assess visible road dust and evaluate the effectiveness of road-cleaning and sweeping operations.
The inspection was carried out as part of CAQM’s continued efforts to strengthen dust-mitigation measures and improve road cleanliness for effective control of air pollution across Delhi-NCR. Four Flying Squad teams constituted by the Commission inspected roads under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi.
During the drive, 25 road stretches covering approximately 35 kilometres of the Inner and Outer Ring Road were inspected. The teams reported 17 violations involving high levels of visible road dust and accumulation of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste across the inspected stretches.
CAQM observed that the findings highlight the need for stricter and more effective implementation of prescribed road-cleaning, sweeping and dust-mitigation measures by the concerned road-owning agencies. Regular sweeping and removal of accumulated dust are particularly important because vehicular movement can resuspend settled dust, contributing to deterioration in ambient air quality.
The Commission has directed PWD Delhi and other concerned agencies to undertake corrective measures on a priority basis. Road stretches under their jurisdiction are required to be maintained in clean and dust-free conditions through regular sweeping, removal of accumulated road dust and C&D waste, and timely corrective action.
CAQM stated that such inspection drives will continue under Operation Clean Air across Delhi-NCR. The inspections are intended to assess the on-ground implementation of air-pollution abatement measures, identify compliance gaps and facilitate timely corrective action by the agencies concerned.
