The Council of Architecture Training & Research Centre, Pune, in collaboration with the Priyadarshini Institute of Architecture and Design Studies, Nagpur, will organise a five-day online Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled “Intellectual Property Rights in Architecture: Integrating Indian Traditional Knowledge System” from 2 to 6 February 2026. The programme will be conducted daily between 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM and is aimed exclusively at teachers and practicing architects.

The FDP is designed to strengthen awareness and practical understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) within architectural education and professional practice. Key focus areas include patents, copyrights, design registration, trademarks, and the emerging role of AI-integrated research in architectural innovation. The programme also places emphasis on Indian Traditional Knowledge Systems, encouraging participants to document and protect indigenous design methods and construction know-how under appropriate IPR frameworks.
According to the organisers, the initiative seeks to bridge gaps between academia, professional practice, and legal frameworks, enabling architects and educators to identify patentable and protectable aspects of their projects, research, and innovations. Participants will also gain clarity on the legal implications of copying, imitation, and plagiarism in architectural works.
The FDP will feature an interdisciplinary panel of experts from architecture, planning, law, intellectual property administration, and academia, including professionals from national institutions and regulatory bodies. Sessions will provide step-by-step guidance on IP registration processes and practical insights into safeguarding architectural creativity in India’s evolving legal and technological landscape.
The programme is convened by Prof. Jayashree Deshpande, Director, COA TRC Pune, with academic coordination by Prof. Manisha Yelne, IQAC In-charge, PIADS Nagpur. Online coordination will be managed by faculty members from PIADS Nagpur.
