According to the announcement issued by the institute, the decision to extend the timeline was taken after receiving multiple requests from prospective participants seeking more preparation time. The competition has already generated considerable interest among architects, designers, and multidisciplinary teams across the country who wish to contribute innovative ideas for the future redevelopment of the institutional building.

With the revised schedule, the registration deadline has been extended to 30 April 2026, while the final submission deadline has been moved to 15 May 2026. The additional time is expected to help participants refine their concepts, develop stronger architectural proposals, and address the competition brief in greater depth.

The design competition invites architects and teams to reimagine the existing IIA building at Belapur as a contemporary institutional space that reflects the aspirations of the architectural profession while responding to evolving urban and functional needs. Participants are encouraged to explore creative design approaches that integrate sustainability, functionality, and contextual sensitivity within the redevelopment proposal.

Competitions of this nature play an important role in fostering innovation within the architecture community, while also creating opportunities for emerging architects and young professionals to showcase their design thinking on a national platform. By opening the redevelopment of its own institutional building to a design competition, the IIA seeks to promote collaborative dialogue and fresh architectural ideas.

Interested participants are advised to review the competition brief, guidelines, and submission procedures available on the official website of the Indian Institute of Architects before registering. The institute has encouraged architects and design teams from across the country to take advantage of the extended timeline and actively participate in shaping the future redevelopment of the Belapur facility.

The competition is expected to attract a wide range of proposals, reflecting diverse architectural approaches and innovative solutions for institutional redevelopment within the contemporary urban context.
