The Delhi government has approved a ₹55 crore project to install a towering statue of Lord Ram at Mangolpur Kalan Hanuman Mandir Park in Mangolpuri, located in northwest Delhi. The project has been sanctioned by the Delhi Village Development Board (DVDB) as part of its rural development initiatives aimed at improving public spaces and cultural landmarks in Delhi’s rural areas.

According to official sources, the statue of Lord Ram will rise to approximately 81 feet, making it one of the tallest religious statues in the region. The statue will be mounted on a 10-foot base and topped with an ornamental 6-foot canopy, bringing the overall height close to 100 feet. The structure will be constructed using a reinforced RCC foundation with a structural steel framework, while the outer surface will be finished with bronze cladding panels to enhance durability and visual appeal.
The statue will depict Lord Ram standing on a lotus pedestal in a blessing posture, with his bow resting on the ground. The sculpture will incorporate traditional iconographic elements inspired by classical depictions of the deity, including a halo behind the head and ornamental detailing reflecting Indian sculptural traditions.
The project will be developed near the Mangolpur Kalan Metro Station, making the site easily accessible to visitors. Officials say the statue will create a strong skyline presence and will be visible from nearby metro lines, offering a distinctive visual landmark similar to the well-known Hanuman statue near Jhandewalan.
Out of the ₹55 crore sanctioned budget, around ₹50 crore has been allocated for the statue construction, while the remaining ₹5 crore will be used for park redevelopment and associated public amenities. The redevelopment plan includes landscaping, architectural lighting, improved pedestrian pathways, seating areas, and enhanced visitor facilities to transform the park into a cultural and community destination.
Authorities estimate that the construction will take around 18 months from the date the tender is awarded. The tendering process is expected to be completed soon, and agencies with prior experience in similar large-scale projects will be invited to participate.
The initiative is part of a broader rural development plan covering 574 projects worth over ₹1,317 crore approved by the Delhi Village Development Board for villages and rural pockets across the capital. Officials believe the statue and park redevelopment will strengthen community identity, attract visitors, and enhance recreational infrastructure in the area.
The project also reflects a growing trend of integrating cultural symbolism with urban public space development, creating landmark destinations that serve both spiritual and social purposes for residents and visitors alike.
