Two major railway sections in Madhya Pradesh—the 53-km Satna–Devendranagar line and the 65-km Rewa–Churhat line—were dedicated to the nation on October 24, 2026, marking a significant step towards strengthening rail connectivity across the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions. The occasion also witnessed the flagging off of a new Devendranagar–Churhat passenger train service.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The Railway Minister joined the programme from New Delhi through video conferencing, while events were held at Churhat and Nagod railway stations.
The two sections form part of the 541-km-long Lalitpur–Singrauli Railway Project, which is intended to improve connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and benefit districts including Lalitpur, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli.
Rewa–Churhat Line to Improve Connectivity in Sidhi
The approximately 65-km Rewa–Churhat railway line has been constructed at a cost of around ₹1,070 crore. Its completion followed the construction of the final 22.5-km section between Rampur Naikin and Churhat, extending rail connectivity to areas of Sidhi district.
The new connection is expected to improve access to educational institutions, healthcare facilities, employment and business opportunities. The region’s limestone and other mineral resources, along with its cement industry potential, could also benefit from improved freight transportation and logistics.
Satna–Devendranagar Line to Support Industry and Rural Markets
The 53-km Satna–Devendranagar railway line has been developed at a cost of approximately ₹873 crore. The project was completed with the construction of the final 8-km section between Phulwari and Devendranagar.
The line is expected to support the movement of cement, clinker and other industrial goods from Satna and its surrounding mineral-rich areas. Improved rail-based freight connectivity could reduce dependence on road transportation and support the expansion of industrial activities.
Farmers and rural traders in Devendranagar, Nagod and Panna are also expected to benefit from better access to larger markets. Agricultural produce, handicrafts and other local products could reach wider markets, creating opportunities in transportation, warehousing, trade and allied services.
New Passenger Train to Benefit Daily Commuters
The newly introduced Devendranagar–Churhat–Devendranagar passenger service will provide improved travel options through Satna and Rewa. Students, working professionals, traders, patients, farmers and other daily commuters are expected to benefit from the additional rail connectivity.
The service could also support local economic activity by improving the movement of agricultural produce, stone crafts and handicrafts, while creating opportunities for small businesses and transport-related services.
Tourism and Employment Prospects
Improved connectivity is expected to make destinations across the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions more accessible. Attractions such as the White Tiger Safari at Mukundpur, Chachai and Bahuti waterfalls, Rewa Fort, Govindgarh and destinations in Panna and Khajuraho could benefit from increased tourist movement.
Growth in tourism may generate additional demand for hotels, local transport, guides, handicrafts and other services, supporting employment and regional businesses.
₹1 Lakh Crore Worth of Railway Projects Underway
According to the Ministry of Railways, railway projects worth approximately ₹1 lakh crore are underway in Madhya Pradesh. These include new railway lines, track doubling, construction of third and fourth lines, and gauge-conversion projects.
The Railway Minister stated that completion of these projects could enable the introduction of more than 100 long-distance trains and 50–60 short-distance services, including MEMU and Intercity trains, in the coming years.
The state is also undertaking railway station redevelopment, with approximately 80 stations included in the programme. Khajuraho station is being developed with architectural features reflecting Madhya Pradesh’s culture and heritage.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav described the new connectivity as a fresh beginning for the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions, highlighting its potential to improve access to markets, healthcare, education and employment.
The commissioning of the Satna–Devendranagar and Rewa–Churhat sections represents an important infrastructure milestone for the region. Beyond passenger mobility, the lines are expected to strengthen industrial logistics, support rural commerce and improve access to tourism destinations, contributing to broader regional development.
