The Indian Railways has approved a new tri-weekly train service connecting Machilipatnam and Kurnool City via Vijayawada under South Coast Railway. The new service is expected to provide an additional rail connectivity option for commuters travelling between coastal and central parts of Andhra Pradesh.
The approved Machilipatnam–Kurnool City Express will cover a distance of 499 km. The train will depart from Machilipatnam at 4:55 PM and reach Kurnool City at 5:45 AM the following day. In the return direction, the Kurnool City–Machilipatnam Express will depart from Kurnool City at 9:30 AM and arrive at Machilipatnam at 9:35 PM on the same day.
The Machilipatnam–Kurnool City service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, while the return service will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
The new train will have commercial stoppages at Gudivada, Vijayawada, Narasaraopet, Vinukonda, Donakonda, Markapur Road, Cumbum, Giddalur, Diguvametta, Nandyal, Betamcherla and Dhone.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the service will provide an additional travel option for passengers and strengthen connectivity between Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Kurnool City. It will also improve rail access to several towns and urban centres located along the route.
The new service is part of efforts to expand rail connectivity within Andhra Pradesh and improve passenger movement between important coastal and inland locations.
