Roorkee, Uttarakhand: The workshop aims to bring together architects, engineers, urban planners, policymakers, researchers and industry professionals to exchange knowledge on emerging technologies and practical approaches for developing energy-efficient and sustainable buildings.
According to the workshop organisers, buildings account for more than 40 per cent of India’s total energy consumption, making energy efficiency a critical priority. The programme will focus on solutions aligned with India’s long-term sustainability objectives, including Net Zero 2070 and Viksit Bharat 2047.
Focus on Net-Positive and Sustainable Building Practices
The workshop will cover a range of technical subjects, including net-positive, active and passive building designs, integration of renewable energy in buildings, energy-efficient economic construction technologies and the use of green materials to reduce the carbon footprint of construction.
Participants will also get opportunities to explore technologies developed by CSIR-CBRI through demonstrations, laboratory visits and visits to technology parks and demonstration parks associated with the institute.
A Net-Zero Building Design Challenge will form part of the programme, alongside industry, poster and scientific exhibitions. A construction challenge featuring prototype displays is also planned.

The workshop is scheduled for September 28–30, 2026. The registration deadline mentioned in the workshop announcement is August 31, 2026, while the last date for fee submission is September 15, 2026.

- Academicians/R&D: ₹5,000
- Industry-sponsored participants: ₹10,000
- Government-sponsored participants: ₹5,000
Advancing Energy-Efficient Construction
CSIR-CBRI has been engaged in building science and construction technology research since 1947, with work spanning building construction, materials, structural rehabilitation, disaster mitigation, fire safety, energy-efficient housing and sustainable habitat planning.
Through the workshop, the institute seeks to facilitate greater interaction between research institutions, industry and practitioners and encourage the adoption of technologies that can reduce energy consumption and environmental impacts while improving occupant comfort and the overall quality of life.
