NHAI Workshop on Litigation Management to Boost National Highway Project Efficiency

In a significant step toward improving efficiency in national highway development, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) organized a day-long workshop in New Delhi focused on “Comprehensive Litigation Management in National Highways & Strengthening Inter-Departmental Coordination.” The initiative was conducted under the Mission Karmayogi – Sadhana Saptah, aimed at enhancing governance through institutional capacity building and improved inter-agency collaboration.

The workshop was chaired by Santosh Kumar Yadav, who emphasized the critical role of seamless coordination among departments in expediting approvals, reducing procedural delays, and ensuring timely completion of infrastructure projects. He highlighted that proactive collaboration and informed decision-making are essential to overcoming implementation bottlenecks in large-scale highway projects.

Senior officials from multiple central ministries and departments—including Power, Railways, the Department of Legal Affairs, DPIIT, and the Department of Land Resources—participated in the workshop, reflecting a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing challenges in highway execution. The sessions facilitated structured discussions on key issues such as land acquisition, utility shifting, and forest and environmental clearances.

Addressing the inaugural session, Vishal Chauhan outlined the workshop’s objectives and encouraged participants to actively engage in deliberations to strengthen institutional efficiency. He stressed the importance of capacity building in ensuring smoother project implementation.

The workshop featured a series of technical sessions covering critical aspects such as the National Highways Act, 1956, litigation management strategies, provisions of the RFCTLARR Act, 2013, and best practices in integrated planning and utility shifting. Case studies and key judicial precedents related to land acquisition were also discussed, offering practical insights to stakeholders.

An interactive panel discussion and open-house session concluded the event, allowing participants to directly engage with subject matter experts and exchange solutions.

The initiative marks a strategic move toward adopting a more integrated and holistic approach to national highway development, aligning with the Government of India’s broader vision of building a robust, efficient, and world-class road infrastructure network across the country.
