₹218.89 Crore Development Projects Inaugurated and Laid in Tripura to Boost Connectivity and Livelihoods

Agartala, Tripura | Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a series of infrastructure and social development projects worth ₹218.89 crore in Tripura. The programme, held on the occasion of Basant Panchami, was attended by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and senior state officials.

Of the total outlay, five projects valued at ₹153.63 crore were inaugurated, while three new projects worth ₹65.26 crore had their foundation stones laid. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening road connectivity, power infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and livelihood opportunities, particularly in tribal, remote, and hilly regions of the state.

Focus on Roads, Power, and Inclusive Growth

Key projects include the Jatanbari–Mandirghat–Tirthamukh Road (14 km) and the Gandacherra–Raishyabari–Narikel Kunja Road (8 km), designed to improve access to markets, schools, hospitals, and district headquarters. Several PMGSY road projects will further connect interior and difficult terrains, while solar micro-grid projects under PM-DevINE aim to provide clean and reliable electricity to remote habitations, supporting education, healthcare, and small enterprises.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Scindia stated that these projects align with the Prime Minister’s vision of transforming the North Eastern Region into a connected, competitive, and sustainable growth engine. He noted that under the mandate to allocate 10% of Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) to the region, over ₹6.5 lakh crore has been invested across the eight North Eastern states in the past decade, significantly accelerating infrastructure development and employment generation.

Tripura’s Infrastructure Gains Highlighted

The Minister highlighted Tripura’s rapid progress, including broad-gauge rail connectivity up to Sabroom, expansion of road length from 850 km to over 1,550 km, upgradation of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport to handle 3 million passengers annually, and the state’s transition to a power-surplus status with nearly 1,000 MW installed capacity.

He also emphasized Tripura’s strategic role, remarking that the state should evolve not only as a gateway to the North East but also as a gateway to South-East Asia, with strengthened international connectivity to boost trade and tourism.

Healthcare Projects and Vision 2047

Following the inauguration, the Union Minister and Chief Minister visited two major PM-DevINE healthcare projects in Agartala—the Agartala Government Dental College Building and the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Wing at AGMC GBP Hospital—aimed at improving dental education and maternal and child healthcare services.

Concluding his address, Shri Scindia underscored the broader vision behind the initiatives: “Roads will not merely carry vehicles—they will carry ambition. Power will not merely light homes—it will illuminate futures.” Collectively, these projects are expected to strengthen Tripura’s position as a strategic hub in the North East and contribute to the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
