The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) has issued a Call for Proposals inviting researchers, scholars, and academic institutions across India to submit research proposals under three key research initiatives in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). The initiative aims to strengthen policy-relevant, evidence-based, and action-oriented research to address emerging and region-specific disaster risks in the country.
The call is being issued under the India Universities and Institutions Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (IUINDRRโNIDM) and aligns with national priorities on disaster preparedness, mitigation, and resilience-building. NIDM functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Focus on Actionable and Policy-Oriented Research
According to NIDM, the supported research is expected to generate actionable knowledge and innovative solutions that can directly inform disaster risk governance, planning, and on-ground practices. The outcomes of the selected studies are anticipated to contribute to risk mitigation, informed policymaking, and improved disaster management practices across diverse geographical and socio-economic contexts in India.
Categories Under Which Proposals Are Invited
NIDM has invited proposals under the following three categories:
- NIDM Doctoral Fellowship on Disaster Studies
This category supports doctoral-level research focused on disaster studies, encouraging in-depth academic inquiry into disaster risk reduction, resilience, governance, and allied themes. - Research Project / Study on Disaster Management: Innovation & Action Research
Proposals under this category should emphasize innovative approaches and action research that bridge the gap between theory, policy, and practice in disaster management. - Best Thesis Ranking in Disaster Studies
This category aims to recognize and rank outstanding doctoral or postgraduate theses that make significant contributions to the field of disaster studies.
