PM GatiShakti: 95th Network Planning Group Reviews Key Metro, Highway, and Logistics Projects

In a significant move toward integrated infrastructure development, the 95th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan was convened to evaluate five critical infrastructure projects across the Metro Rail, Roads, and Logistics sectors.

PM GatiShakti: 95th Network Planning Group Reviews Key Metro, Highway, and Logistics Projects

Chaired by Shri Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the session focused on multimodal connectivity, last-mile access, and efficient logistics planning. The reviewed proposals include one metro extension, two national highway projects, and two multi-modal logistics parks (MMLPs).

1. Ahmedabad Metro Extension to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport

Agency: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)

The proposed Ahmedabad Metro Phase-2A aims to extend metro services by 6.032 km from Koteshwar to the international airport, improving urban mobility and airport accessibility. The project will enhance connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar and ease congestion while promoting sustainable public transportation. Stakeholders include SVPIA, AMC, AUDA, and the Urban Development Department.

2. 8-Lane Access-Controlled Highway to Vadhavan Port, Maharashtra

Agency: Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH)

A game-changing proposal for an 8-lane express highway on NH-248S is set to connect to the under-construction Vadhavan Port, envisioned to be among the world’s top 10 container ports. With cargo handling capacities projected to reach 23.2 million TEUs in later phases, the highway ensures seamless multimodal evacuation with linkages to NH-48, the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, and the Western Railway Line.

3. Elevated Road Corridor in Jodhpur City, Rajasthan

Agency: MoRTH

To ease congestion in Rajasthan’s bustling Jodhpur city, a 7.6 km four-lane elevated road is planned between Mahamandir and Akhaliya Chouraha. Bypassing 8 major and 20 minor junctions, the corridor along NH-62 and NH-125 will significantly reduce peak hour travel time and enhance intra-city connectivity.

4. Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Hyderabad, Telangana

Agency: MoRTH

Spread across 315 acres in Parkibanda, Medak District, the Hyderabad MMLP will streamline freight operations with an expected cargo capacity of 19.98 MMT by 2070. Located near NH-44 and the Manoharabad Railway Station, the site is strategically positioned to support Hyderabad’s industrial hubs and boost cargo movement via road and rail.

5. Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Patna, Bihar

Agency: MoRTH

Another major logistics initiative, the MMLP Patna, will span over 106 acres at Jaitiya village. It aims to serve Bihar’s growing freight demand, handling over 5.43 MMT annually by 2071. Situated near Top Sarthua Railway Station and connected to several national highways, the park promises to transform logistics in eastern India and offer direct trade access to Kolkata and Haldia ports.
