The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, and several other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah said the complex, named after freedom fighter Veer Savarkar, is India’s largest and among the most modern sports facilities in the world. Spread over 1.19 lakh square meters, it includes seven entry gates, parking for 900 vehicles, a solar power plant, sewage treatment plant, hostel accommodation for athletes, medical and nutrition support, coaching facilities, and a performance analysis theater.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global sports powerhouse by 2047, Shah said the new sports policy, launched in 2025, focuses on infrastructure, athlete training, and integrating sports with education. He emphasized that Ahmedabad is rapidly emerging as India’s sports capital, already home to the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium and the upcoming Sardar Patel Sports Complex.

The Veer Savarkar Sports Complex will also host the World Police and Fire Games in 2029 and is being prepared as a potential venue for the 2036 Olympics, with 13 international tournaments planned in the run-up.

Shah expressed confidence that the facility will not only produce medal-winning athletes but also inspire them to bring global recognition to India.
