Motihari, Bihar — In a defining moment for Eastern India’s Bihar development journey, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth over ₹7,000 crore in Motihari, Bihar. These initiatives—spanning infrastructure, housing, transport, IT, agriculture, and spiritual tourism—signal a strong push toward equitable regional development and urban transformation in the state.

Urban Transformation Through Infrastructure
At the heart of these efforts lies improved connectivity and accessibility. A series of transport infrastructure projects were launched to strengthen regional and national integration:
- Doubling of the Darbhanga–Narkatiaganj rail line (₹4,080 crore) to boost train frequency and reduce congestion
- Modernisation of Motihari Railway Station, aimed at establishing it as a future-ready transport hub
- Four-laning of Ara Bypass (NH-319) and inauguration of the Parariya–Mohania section for faster urban corridor travel
- Upgraded automatic signalling and traction systems to support higher train speeds and improved safety
- Launch of Amrit Bharat Express trains connecting Bihar’s major cities to New Delhi and Lucknow
These projects are expected to catalyze investment, increase freight efficiency, and promote the growth of Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in the region.

Empowering Cities Through Technology and Services
To accelerate Bihar’s digital economy, the Prime Minister inaugurated:
- New Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facilities in Darbhanga
- State-of-the-art incubation centers in Patna to support IT, ESDM, and startup ecosystems
These facilities aim to foster entrepreneurship, innovation, and job creation, making cities like Patna and Darbhanga emerging hubs for technology and services.
Integrated Housing and Social Infrastructure
Urban inclusivity remains a key theme. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY-Gramin):
- Over 12,000 families in Motihari received keys to new pucca houses
- ₹160 crore was transferred to over 40,000 families, mostly from Dalit, Mahadalit, and backward communities
To date, Bihar has constructed nearly 60 lakh houses, reducing homelessness and improving urban living standards.
Strengthening Rural-Urban Linkages
These initiatives are designed to generate employment across both urban and rural economies. Through housing, infrastructure, and IT-led growth, Bihar is witnessing reduced migration and stronger local economies.
