Jind, Haryana | Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone and dedicated multiple development projects India’s First Hydrogen Train worth around ₹14,700 crore in Jind, Haryana, covering railways, highways, healthcare, clean mobility, and cultural infrastructure. The projects are aimed at strengthening regional connectivity, improving public services, promoting sustainable transportation, and accelerating Haryana’s economic growth.

A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of India’s first hydrogen-powered train, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition towards green mobility. The train will operate on the 90-kilometre Jind–Sonipat route and is designed with 10 coaches and a 3,200-horsepower engine, making it one of the most powerful hydrogen trains globally. According to the Prime Minister, the train has been designed and manufactured in India under the Make in India initiative.
India’s Green Mobility Milestone
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said the 21st century would be driven by hydrogen-based transportation, just as steam defined the 19th century and electricity transformed railways in the 20th century.
He noted that only a handful of countries currently operate hydrogen trains and emphasized that India’s first hydrogen train has a higher capacity than many international counterparts, which generally run with three or four coaches. The project is also expected to create new employment opportunities through the development of hydrogen infrastructure and manufacturing ecosystems.
Major Infrastructure Projects Dedicated
The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several key infrastructure projects, including:
- Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway (local section)
- Jind–Gohana National Highway
- Ambala–Kala Amb Four-Lane Highway
- Multiple railway infrastructure projects
- Healthcare and cultural infrastructure initiatives across Haryana.
He stated that improved road and rail connectivity would reduce travel time, improve logistics, strengthen tourism, facilitate market access for farmers and livestock owners, and generate employment opportunities.
Healthcare Infrastructure Expanded
The Prime Minister dedicated:
- Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Medical College, Bhiwani
- Maharishi Chyavan Medical College
- Rao Tularam Hospital, Narnaul
These institutions are expected to strengthen healthcare delivery while expanding opportunities for medical education in the state.
Railway Electrification Strengthens Energy Security
Highlighting the transformation of Indian Railways over the past decade, the Prime Minister said nearly 99% of the national railway network has now been electrified, while Haryana’s railway network has achieved 100% electrification.
He said this has reduced dependence on imported diesel and enabled uninterrupted railway operations despite global fuel supply disruptions.
Sports and Youth Development
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s growing investment in sports infrastructure through initiatives such as the National Sports Policy, Khelo Bharat Niti, Khelo India, and TOPS.
He highlighted India’s preparations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, its bid for the 2036 Olympic Games, and the upcoming World Police and Fire Games in Ahmedabad, encouraging Haryana’s youth to prepare for future international competitions.
Cultural Heritage Projects
As part of efforts to preserve India’s cultural heritage, the Prime Minister announced the foundation stone for a new Sikh Museum in Kurukshetra, which will showcase the legacy of Sikh Gurus and India’s rich spiritual traditions for future generations.
Focus on Agriculture and Development
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to farmers, stating that around ₹8,000 crore has been transferred to Haryana’s farmers through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, including over ₹600 crore to beneficiaries in Jind district. He also praised Haryana’s governance model, emphasizing transparency, merit-based recruitment, and inclusive development.
