Madhya Pradesh/Jabalpur: The Government of India is developing the ₹3,540 crore Jabalpur Outer Ring Road project in Madhya Pradesh to reduce city congestion and strengthen regional connectivity across Central India. The 114-kilometre four-lane Greenfield corridor is being constructed by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and is expected to become a major infrastructure boost for the Mahakaushal region.

The ring road has been divided into five construction packages connecting Barela, Manegaon, NH-45, Kushner, Amjhar, and nearby areas. Once completed, the project will allow vehicles travelling towards Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra to bypass Jabalpur city, significantly reducing travel time, fuel consumption, and traffic pressure on urban roads.
Rapid urbanisation and increasing industrial activities had led to heavy congestion in Jabalpur over recent years. Farmers and transporters from surrounding regions often faced long delays while transporting goods to markets. According to local residents, partially opened sections of the ring road are already improving travel efficiency and easing movement.
A major highlight of the project is the construction of an advanced extradosed bridge over the Narmada River, which is expected to become a landmark infrastructure structure in the region. The project also includes 14 major bridges, 37 minor bridges, multiple flyovers, railway overbridges, underpasses, and nearly 332 culverts.
Apart from transportation benefits, the corridor is expected to boost tourism connectivity to destinations such as Bhedaghat, Dhuandhar Falls, Kanha National Park, and Amarkantak. The project also focuses on sustainable development through the use of fly ash, green belt development, and plantation initiatives.
The Jabalpur Outer Ring Road is expected to emerge as a major economic growth corridor, supporting trade, logistics, tourism, and employment generation across Central India.
