Delhi: CM Rekha Gupta has inaugurated development projects worth ₹1,075 crore in East Delhi, focusing on drainage upgradation, road strengthening, bridge construction, and pedestrian infrastructure. The comprehensive package is aimed at addressing long-standing issues of waterlogging, traffic congestion, and deteriorating road conditions in the region.

According to official details, the largest component of the allocation — ₹782 crore — has been earmarked for the strengthening of 236 roads. The intervention is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, road safety, and traffic flow across East Delhi’s residential and commercial corridors.
A substantial ₹272 crore has been allocated for the reconstruction and improvement of drainage systems. The plan includes the renovation of major drains, construction of boundary walls, and associated road and bridge works. The focus on drainage infrastructure is particularly critical for East Delhi, which frequently faces monsoon-related waterlogging due to inadequate stormwater management and encroachments along natural outfalls.
Additionally, ₹21 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of five new foot-over bridges. These pedestrian facilities aim to improve safety in high-traffic zones and provide grade-separated crossings, reducing accident risks and vehicular bottlenecks.
Officials stated that the projects are designed to provide long-term structural solutions rather than temporary relief measures. By integrating drainage improvement with road reconstruction and bridge works, the initiative seeks to create a coordinated urban infrastructure upgrade.
The development push in East Delhi aligns with the broader objective of strengthening urban governance, enhancing mobility, and ensuring resilient civic infrastructure. With these projects, the administration aims to provide permanent relief from recurring issues such as traffic congestion and waterlogging, contributing to a more efficient and livable urban environment.
