Ayodhya marked a monumental moment on November 25, 2025, when the Ram Mandir—long envisioned as a symbol of India’s civilisational memory—reached full completion with the sacred Dhwaja Arohan ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted a 22-foot saffron dharmic flag, signalling the triumphant culmination of a centuries-long journey rooted in faith, resilience, and constitutional justice.

A Legacy Realised Through Law and Devotion

For generations, Ayodhya had been revered globally as the birthplace of Lord Ram, making the dream of constructing a temple at this sacred site an enduring aspiration. This long-standing hope moved closer to reality on November 9, 2019, when the Supreme Court of India unanimously awarded the 2.77-acre Ram Janmabhoomi site for temple construction.

Following the landmark verdict, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust was constituted in February 2020 to oversee the project. The temple’s physical transformation began with the Bhoomi Pujan performed by the Prime Minister on August 5, 2020, marking the start of construction.

A Timeless Structure Built for a Thousand Years

Designed by architect Chandrakant Sompura, the Ram Mandir stands today as a testament to traditional Nagara architectural mastery blended with advanced engineering. Construction was led by Larsen & Toubro, with Tata Consulting Engineers serving as advisors.

As highlighted in the temple specifications:

  • Total area: 2.7 acres
  • Height: 161 ft including the peak
  • Built-up area: 57,400 sq. ft.
  • Total pillars: 392
  • Entrance gates: 44
  • Total floors: 3

The sanctum sanctorum now houses the idol of Shri Ram Lalla, accessible via 32 steps from the eastern Singh Dwar. The complex also includes five beautifully crafted mandaps—Nritya, Rang, Sabha, Prarthana, and Kirtan—and restored heritage elements such as the ancient Shiv Mandir at Kuber Tila and the historic Sita Koop.

Modern Facilities Supporting Spiritual Experience

The temple’s construction featured contributions from experts at IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Guwahati, ensuring a structural foundation designed to last a thousand years.

To support millions of devotees, the Ram Mandir complex incorporated several modern amenities:

  • Pilgrimage Facility Centre (PFC)
  • Ramps for elderly and differently-abled visitors
  • Emergency medical services
  • Solar energy systems promoting sustainable pilgrimage

A Global Cultural Impact

The completion of the Ram Mandir resonated far beyond India’s borders. As noted in the background report (page 4), Trinidad & Tobago initiated plans to build a grand Ram Mandir in its capital after unveiling a replica idol of Ram Lalla in May 2025. This reflected the global cultural and spiritual influence of the Ayodhya temple.

Conclusion

With the Dhwaja Arohan marking the final milestone, the Ram Mandir’s journey from aspiration to reality has officially concluded. The temple now stands not just as a physical structure but as a living embodiment of devotion, cultural pride, and constitutional harmony. Ayodhya has re-emerged as a global centre of spirituality, heritage, and cultural exchange, drawing millions to experience the legacy of Lord Ram.
