Bhubaneswar, Odisha: The Indian Buildings Congress (IBC) – Odisha Center is set to organise a brainstorming session on National Building Construction Standards 2026 (NBCS-2026) on 19 September 2026 at Hotel Lemon Tree, Bhubaneswar. The session will focus on the transition from NBC-2016 to NBCS-2026 and its implications for India’s evolving built environment.
The programme is positioned as a platform for architects, planners, academicians and professionals from the construction sector to exchange knowledge and discuss the practical application of the new building standards. The organisers said the session will bring together diverse professional perspectives on safer buildings, stronger construction standards, sustainable development and a more resilient built environment.

Ar. S.S. Ray, Founder of Vastukar and Director of the School of Architecture & Planning at KIIT University, will chair the session.
The panel for Session-II features Dr. Bharati Mohapatra, HOD, Architecture, Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla, Sambalpur; Ar. Dharitri Das, HOD, Architecture, Piloo Mody College of Architecture, Cuttack; Ar. Gayatree Hota, Senior Architect, CPWD; Ar. Rajkunwar Nayak, former Dean and HOD, Architecture, Shree Shree University, Cuttack; and Ar. Ruchipurna Jena, Principal Architect at Prakrith Architects, Bhubaneswar.
The discussion is expected to examine the changing requirements of building design and construction in the context of NBCS-2026, while encouraging professional dialogue on implementation, safety, sustainability and construction quality.

The National Building Construction Standards 2026 represents the latest edition of India’s national building standards. Information published by the Bureau of Indian Standards indicates that NBCS 2026 updates the framework established through the 2016 edition, with revised provisions covering areas including building materials, structural design, building services, plumbing, fire and life safety.
The Odisha session comes amid wider professional discussions on understanding the changes introduced in NBCS-2026. The Indian Buildings Congress–Odisha Chapter has described the programme as an opportunity for knowledge sharing, professional exchange and practical discussion on the future of India’s building standards and construction practices.
