Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Achieves Major Milestone with Successful Launch of All 13 Heavy Portal Beams

Ahmedabad | The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project has reached another significant engineering milestone with the successful launch of all 13 heavy portal beams in Ahmedabad. The achievement marks a major step forward in India’s first high-speed rail corridor, demonstrating the project’s rapid construction progress and advanced engineering capabilities.

The portal beams have been installed over one of the busiest railway sections in Ahmedabad to support the elevated Bullet Train viaduct while ensuring uninterrupted operation of existing railway tracks below. The complex operation required meticulous planning, specialized heavy-lifting equipment, and strict adherence to safety protocols.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the successful completion of all 13 portal beam launches highlights the engineering excellence behind the National High Speed Rail project. These massive reinforced concrete portal beams form a critical part of the elevated corridor, enabling the Bullet Train alignment to cross active railway infrastructure without disrupting rail services.

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is implementing the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, has been steadily advancing civil construction across Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Ahmedabad section remains one of the most technically challenging segments due to its dense urban environment and the presence of multiple operational railway lines.

The completion of the portal beam installation is expected to accelerate subsequent works, including viaduct construction and track-related infrastructure. Once completed, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities while introducing Japan’s Shinkansen technology to India.

The Ministry of Railways described the achievement as another important milestone in India’s journey towards world-class rail infrastructure and reaffirmed its commitment to the timely execution of the country’s first Bullet Train project.
