DDA and NSD Collaborate to Transform Delhi Parks into Creative Community Hubs

New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the National School of Drama (NSD) have joined hands to bring theatre and creativity into the city’s green spaces through a new initiative called “Rangbaag.” The program aims to turn Delhi’s parks into lively cultural and learning hubs that promote community engagement and artistic expression.

Under the collaboration, NSD-trained faculty will conduct theatre-based workshops, storytelling sessions, and movement activities designed for all age groups. The initiative focuses on experiential learning through acting, improvisation, and play, taking art beyond formal institutions into open, natural environments.

To mark the launch, NSD presented “Nanha Scientist”—a performance celebrating the imagination and curiosity of young minds. A formal MoU between DDA and NSD will soon be signed to roll out the programme to the public.

The pilot phase will begin with a three-month certificate course at Baansera Park, located opposite Sarai Kale Khan ISBT. The course will feature weekly workshops and, if successful, will expand to more city parks. The initiative is designed to include children, youth, and even senior citizens, fostering a sense of belonging through art and performance.

“The Rangbaag programme aims to bring theatre into open, green spaces where children and young people can learn through imagination and play,” said a DDA official, highlighting that the concept aligns with the Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena’s vision of reimagining Delhi’s public spaces.

Over recent years, DDA has added new features such as green cafés, musical fountains, sculptures, and improved lighting across the city’s parks and floodplain areas. The upcoming winter season, known for higher park footfall, is expected to see strong public participation in the Rangbaag workshops.

NSD’s Theatre in Education Company, known for nurturing creative learning among youth, will lead the artistic modules. The programme will also receive technical support from Primus Partners, a management consulting firm assisting in implementation.

The DDA aims to make parks not just recreational spaces but safe, inclusive venues for social and cultural collaboration, inviting schools, local communities, and institutions to participate.
