The School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Bhopal, one of India’s premier institutions in architecture and planning education, has officially announced the commencement of its PhD admissions for the academic year 2025. The online application process is now live and will remain open until 30th April 2025, inviting scholars from across the country to apply for research opportunities in diverse domains.

According to the official notification issued on 15th April 2025, applications will be accepted only through online mode. There is no requirement to submit hard copies of the application form. Candidates can access the application form via the institute’s website www.spabhopal.ac.in, or directly through the Google Form link provided in the notice.
Diverse Research Opportunities Across Nine Departments
SPA Bhopal is offering 72 seats in total for its PhD Admission programmes across nine departments, including:
- Architecture – 21 seats
- Urban and Regional Planning (URP) – 21 seats
- Environmental Planning (EP) – 3 seats
- Landscape Architecture – 3 seats
- Urban Design (UD) – 5 seats
- Conservation – 5 seats
- Transport Planning (TP) – 5 seats
- Design – 3 seats
- Building Engineering Management (BEM) – 6 seats
Admission to these programmes will be based on a category-wise merit list, prepared through a consolidated evaluation of all applicants, regardless of department. The seat matrix also includes backlog vacancies.
Reservation Category-wise Seat Distribution
Of the 72 available seats, the reservation-wise distribution is as follows:
- Unreserved (UR) – 17 seats
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS) – 9 seats
- Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) – 25 seats
- Scheduled Castes (SC) – 14 seats
- Scheduled Tribes (ST) – 7 seats

Application Fees and Payment Modes
Application fees are fixed at ₹3000 for candidates belonging to Open, EWS, and OBC-NCL categories, and ₹2000 for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. Payments can be made through SBI Collect or via NEFT/RTGS as detailed in the official notice.
Registration and Programme Fees
Candidates selected for the PhD programme will be required to pay the following fees:
- One-time Admission Fee: ₹10,000 (non-refundable)
- Annual Registration Fee: ₹23,000
- PhD Thesis Submission Fee: ₹30,000
